ISALAB: the launch of a field school
The ISALAB construction site, which is to be home to the ISA BTP Engineering School of Anglet, has been launched. As part of their field school training, 39 student engineers in their 2nd year at ISA BTP visited the construction site for the first time at the end of May.
At the end of May, thirty-nine student engineers from ISA BTP had the opportunity of seeing the progress made on the ISALAB construction site, an exemplary future building which will house the school as from the start of the 2022 school year within the Arkinova technology cluster dedicated to construction and sustainable development. This was an ideal practical experience for these young students who will become tomorrow’s reputable engineers in the field of construction and public works.
Field school
This first visit was part of the field school collaboration between the Pays Basque Municipality and ISA BTP to monitor the construction of ISALAB within the framework of the Cœur de Campus (Heart of Campus) project in Anglet. During this visit, Sébastien Teillary, Eiffage Construction Project Manager, highlighted the features of this building which is classed E3C1 within the meaning of the future 2020 environmental regulations and explained the general organisation of the construction site. The students were then guided on-site by site supervisor, Patxi Mocho Etchemendy.
Geothermal energy piles, environmental protection, safety measures, provision of construction BIMs, material and storage management, prefabrication, etc. are all concepts that were presented during this information-packed morning.
For ISA BTP, this is the very purpose of the field school: to involve its students in a construction project with high added value and a typicality – understand, the design and execution, a steel-concrete composite structure, a photovoltaic production unit – that will encourage the students’ progress. Other construction site visits will be organised in the coming months.

The Institut Supérieur Aquitain du Bâtiment et des Travaux Publics (ISA BTP) trains close to 250 students over a period of five years, in four areas: Building, Habitat and Energy, Civil and Maritime Engineering, roads and networks. It also offers additional training courses. As from the start of the 2022 school year, this new building will enable the school to train more student engineers who will later become site supervisors, engineers for design agencies and supervising offices, project owners or main contractors. To date, 97% of young students find employment after completing this course, most of which under permanent contracts.
The Pays Basque Community, as project owner, manages and finances part of ISALAB’s construction. This operation is part of the Cœur de Campus project carried out within the Arkinova technology cluster.
