BaityKool wins a place on the podium in Dubai.
A competitor at the Solar Decathlon Middle-East Dubaï-2018 event, BaityKool, the French project for environmentally-friendly solar housing ranked third after winning four prizes. A great achievement for this group of students supported by the Arkinova ecosystem.
Solar Decathlon Middle-East Dubaï-2018 took place from 14 to 29 November in Dubai and attracted fifteen teams representing universities from across the world. The teams competed in ten events on architectural and engineering themes. The challenge was to build, on site and within ten days, the prototype of a highly innovative, ecological solar housing unit of 90m2.
Bordeaux University rose to the challenge by teaming up with some forty public and private partners to present the BaityKool project. The name ‘BaityKool’ is a combination of the Arabic word ‘baity’ which means ‘my house’ or ‘my kingdom’ and the English word ‘cool’. The Nobatek/INEF4 technology hub, the Arkinova Business Generator and Arkiturria, a company specialised in aquaponics and based in the Arkinova Business Generator in Anglet, were among the major partners of the project.
The BaityKool project, the only French candidate in this prestigious international competition, won third place and was awarded four prizes:
- 1st prize for energy efficiency,
- 1st prize for sustainable development,
- 2nd prize for architecture,
- 3rd prize for engineering & building.
*The Arkinova Business Generator assisted the project through networking with local stakeholders and also provided its tools and digital modelling studio, where the 3D model of the project was built.
**Aquarium window of 800 litres inserted into a wall panel of 4 x 3m, which enables significant plant growth via an ecosystem combining a fish tank and plant beds for growing fruit & vegetables.
