The Arkinova ecosystem takes part in the BaityKool project
As the only French project participating in the “Solar Decathlon Middle-East Dubai 2018” inter-university competition, BaityKool benefits from the expertise and creativity of regional actors in the field of sustainable construction, notably at the Arkinova Activity Generator.
With its name coming from “Baity” in Arabic meaning “my home, my kingdom” and “cool” in English, the BaityKool project is an innovative housing prototype destined for scorching climates. From November 14 to 29 in Dubai, 20 universities from around the world will present their full-scale solar and ecological prototypes, with their high levels of performance and innovation.
Supported by the University of Bordeaux and in association with 5 partners from France, Palestine and Dubai, the BaityKool project gathers 30 actors from the sustainable construction sector in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Enterprises, design consultants, public bodies and training centres are contributing to this ambitious project to promote the region’s know-how at an international level.
In the Basque Country, the NOBATEK/INEF4 Technology Resource Centre and the Arkinova Activity Generator are part of this approach. The Arkinova Activity Generator has contributed to creating a network of local actors and also made its tools available for use, such as its digital modelling room, where the project model was printed in 3D. In addition, the Etchart Group, through its subsidiary Durand-Béton, has provided significant research and development resources to produce 80 highly original cast concrete facade panels, the first heat barrier for an innovative, aesthetic wall and the support for Baitykool's photovoltaic modules.
Amongst the actors from the Arkinova Technology Park who participated in the BaityKool project, some have gone on site such as Bertrand Canigiani and Axel Rochand (Arkitturia start-up) for the aquaponics system incorporated into the project, and a student from the BTS vocational course in Space Design at Cantau High School who will be working on the interior furnishings of the BaityKool house. In 2018, the course organisers chose BaityKool for the students’ graduation projects. A delegation from the consortium with the companies and main partners will be making a site visit from 20 to 23 November. Results of the competition will be revealed on the 29 September!
