The E-Taranis business created at Arkinova
The wind turbine project for private individuals and communities designed by the E-Taranis team is in the next stage of development. Soon the first ten wind turbines will be installed.
The four partners of the E-Taranis project have been established on the Arkinova Business Generator in Anglet for a year now, and set up their business there last December. “We designed a small-scale wind turbine intended for private individuals and local communities who will be able to produce and use their own energy. It’s a patented turbine measuring three metres by three with three blades, which can be installed on a roof, a lamppost or on the ground with a mast of a maximum height of twelve metres,” explains Thibault Eudier, one of the partners. They have just received an interest-free loan from the Bultza association and finished in third place in the Bask’Investpitch competition.
This winter the first turbine was installed in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, but it was damaged in a storm and will be re-installed in early March. “We modified the geometry of the aluminium load-bearing structures as well as the curve of the blades to improve the rotation speed and cut down the air flow. The aim is to design a turbine that can withstand wind of 160 km/h. We are still in research and development, we are chasing costs and optimising performance,” explains Thibault Eudier.
Up to 1.5kW per hour
The wind turbine model known as ‘Alae’, made by the E-Taranis Company, could, under optimum conditions, produce up to 1.5kW per hour. In two and a half hours this yield equates to the needs of two people in a home of 60 m² apart from heating and hot water. The electricity produced is first used for their own consumption, then it is resold when there is a surplus.
Ten wind turbines should be installed next June for a six-month trial phase. The town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz with three turbines, the Metropolitan Conurbation of Limoges with two, two businesses, a small community and private individuals will all be trying out the system. “And then we will be launching the industrialisation phase,” concludes Thibault Eudier.
