A top-level laboratory at Arkinova
Based on the Arkinova technopolitan site, the laboratory of engineering sciences applied to mechanics and electrical engineering (SIAME) directed by Christian La Borderie specialises in the themes of “energy transition and eco-construction” and “risks and structures”.
The SIAME laboratory is an entity belonging to the University of Pau and the Pays de l’Adour (UPPA) based in Pau and in Anglet on the Arkinova technopolitan site, and is attached to the ISA-BTP Engineering College. SIAME’s research activities are focused on four themes: Energy transition and eco-construction, Risks and structures, Modelling, Multiphysics characterisation and optimisation, and high voltage generation and processes.
“In Anglet, we are researching two different themes: Energy transition and eco-construction and Risks and structures. The SIAME team is made up of 29 lecturer-researchers and almost as many doctoral students and postdocs. On the Anglet site, we have 13 lecturer-researchers and around fifteen doctoral students and postdocs” Christian La Borderie, the director of the laboratory, informed us.
“The research carried out in the laboratory has international visibility. Thus, in the field of Risks and structures, Stéphane Abadie works on the risks of tsunamis caused in particular by landslides. Research is also being carried out into the safety of structures on the theme of resistance to accidents with the development of digital models. We are also involved in research being carried out on the harnessing of wave energy” stated Christian La Borderie.
On the themes of energy transition and eco-construction, a chair in architecture and urban physics has been created with the Benoît Beckers as holder, and the SIAME is also home to the work of Domenico Gallipoli who is developing an innovative process for construction materials based on clay, water and sand.
The SIAME laboratory is a member of the CNRS IPRA research Federation, and the Carnot ISIFOR Institute and participates actively in two joint research laboratories. On the Arkinova technopolitan site, the SIAME laboratory teams collaborate with those from the NOBATEK/INEF4 technology resources centreas well as with businesses based at the Arkinova Activity Generator.
