An upcycling project at Créaluz
The clothing designer Thomas Renaud is joining the ecosystem of Créaluz Technology Park in Saint-Jean-de-Luz. The prototyping workshop will provide him with the tools he needs to develop his creations based on recycling.
Known for his Tom Combhard brand created in Biarritz, Thomas Renaud makes clothing and accessories as well as surf suits in an original, colourful style. Next April, he will become part of the ecosystem of Créaluz Technology Park in Saint-Jean-de-Luz. “When I was presenting my bid for the ‘Innovation Workshop’ call for projects in the Communauté Pays Basque, I met the team from Créaluz who suggested I relocate to the Technology Park,” said Thomas Renaud.
His project involves manufacturing clothes in the Pays Basque, using recycled fabrics (upcycling) and customising them on request. “I want to improve what I am already doing and offer clients a design library via customisation software. This project is part of a global evolutionary project for my business with several ranges of software,” he continues.
At Créaluz, Thomas Renaud will have access to the tools and machines of the fast prototyping workshop. “I am working through a process of research & development. The 3D printer will enable me to turn ideas into reality and I also intend to trial textile techniques with the triple feed sewing machine,” explains Thomas Renaud who also expects to benefit from strategic advice about developing his business.
