The results of the survey on the Izarbel inter-company transport plan (PDIE) were presented on 1st June along with eco-mobility solutions prefiguring in the future action plan.

The synthesis report based on questionnaires answered by students and employees in the spring of 2017 was revealed at a press conference held at the Izarbel Technology Park. The high response rate (36%) demonstrates Izarbel users’ interest in the topics of transport and parking.

The survey conducted by the Transport Syndicate of the Pays Basque Urban Authority evaluated commuter profiles in Izarbel, the means and purpose of journeys made between home and work, type of job (business trips, teleworking, etc.), as well as their needs concerning mobility. This survey was complemented by an additional study on parking at the site.

Amongst other figures and data, the survey revealed that the average Izarbel user is male and 32 years of age. The mean distance travelled to the site is 13 km, with an average journey time of 19 minutes. Two out of three users make the trip alone by car. The Technology Park site has 1,008 parking spaces, certain areas being liable to congestion, with an average occupancy rate of 110% during peak hours.

As alternative solutions to single occupancy car use already exist, the survey also measured the use of and interest in eco-mobility solutions amongst students and employees in Izarbel. Furthermore, these solutions correspond to avenues for action envisaged by the Transport Syndicate for the Pays Basque Urban Authority: public transport (9% of users), carsharing (18% of users), cycle (1% of users), and remote working.

Izarbel users were able to discover – or rediscover – these eco mobile means of transport at a Mobility Village (Village de Mobilité), where fun activities based on the construction of alternative solutions and awareness raising were organised. The next stages of this inter-company transport plan will be solution sourcing and the compilation of an action plan June to August, followed by the launching and monitoring of the action plan as of September.
