The lunar incubator Tech TheMoon launches a call for projects
Estia Entreprendre has joined forces with TechTheMoon, the first business in the world exclusively dedicated to innovations for and from the moon. This network, supported by the CNES, has launched an appeal for projects aimed at start-ups.
From the Izarbel technology park in Bidart to… the moon, the link is Estia Entreprendre. This incubator and hothouse for Basque businesses has in fact joined the network of TechTheMoon, the first lunar incubator in the world. This network, supported by the CNES, aims to help start-ups which are developing innovative solutions for the lunar environment.
The prospect of there being a sustainable and autonomous presence on the Moon by 2030 raises some very practical issues concerning daily life and the infrastructure necessary for a human presence. The members of this incubator are devoting all their thought to how humans could set up a base, move around, eat, drink and take care of themselves in conditions never before experienced.
9 businesses incubators have joined this great adventure
TechTheMoon was created in 2021 by the incubator Nubbo and the CNES and is the first incubator in the world exclusively dedicated to innovations for and from the moon.
In 2024, 8 incubators joined, including Estia Entreprendre in Bidart, along with Atlanpole, BIC Montpellier, IncubAlliance Paris-Saclay, Provence Côte d’Azur Incubator, ISU, Technopole Brest Iroise and Technopole de la Réunion. Their mission is to develop an innovative and entrepreneurial ecosystem, capable of responding to these issues.
Call-out to other businesses
With this aim in sight, they are launching a call for tender from start-ups who can offer projects in three areas:
- Infrastructure: the development of inhabitable structures, means of transport or communication systems on the Moon.
- Resources: the extraction and exploitation of lunar resources (water, minerals, etc.).
- Life support: the development of systems to produce energy, food or oxygen on the Moon.
Call for projects: practical information
The 12-month incubation programme will enable 10 start-ups or start-up projects to be supported, from the ideas stage to a commercially viable prototype, to meet the lunar challenges. They must be located within the area of one of the 9 incubators.
The minimum product viable for the Moon must be capable of production within 12 months, with a terrestrial business model viable for 12 months. The principal project leader must be available full-time. Date limit for applications: 23 February 2024

Du site technopolitain Izarbel de Bidart à… la lune, il y a Estia Entreprendre. La pépinière et incubateur d’entreprises basques a en effet rejoint le réseau TechTheMoon, 1er incubateur lunaire au monde. Ce réseau, soutenu par le CNES, vise à accompagner les start-up qui développent des solutions innovantes pour l'habitat lunaire.
La perspective d’une présence durable et autonome sur la Lune, envisagée à l’horizon 2030, soulève des problématiques très concrètes : vie au quotidien, infrastructures nécessaires à la présence humaine. S’installer, se déplacer, se nourrir et se soigner… dans ces conditions inédites, c'est ce à quoi réfléchissent les membres de cet incubateur.
9 incubateurs ont rejoint l’aventure
Créé en 2021 par l’incubateur Nubbo et le CNES, TechTheMoon est le 1er incubateur au monde dédié exclusivement aux innovations pour et par la lune.
En 2024, 8 incubateurs l’ont rejoint dont Estia Entreprendre à Bidart, aux côtés d’Atlanpole, BIC Montpellier, IncubAlliance Paris-Saclay, Incubateur Provence Côte d’Azur, ISU, Technopole Brest Iroise et Technopole de la Réunion. Leur mission ? Développer un écosystème entrepreneurial innovant, capable de répondre à ces problématiques.
Appel à d’autres entreprises
Pour ce faire, ils lancent un appel à candidature auprès de start-up appelées à proposer des projets dans trois domaines :
- Infrastructures : développement de structures habitables, de moyens de transport ou de systèmes de communication sur la Lune.
- Ressources : extraction et exploitation des ressources lunaires (eau, minéraux, etc.).
- Supports de vie : développement de systèmes de production d'énergie, de nourriture ou d'oxygène sur la Lune.
Appel à projets version pratique
Le programme d’incubation de 12 mois permet d’accompagner 10 start-up ou projets de start-up, de l’idée au prototype viable commercialement pour répondre aux défis lunaires. Elles doivent être installées dans le périmètre de l’un des 9 incubateurs.
Le produit minimum viable pour la Lune devra être réalisable sous 12 mois, avec un business model terrestre viable à 12 mois. Le porteur de projet principal doit être disponible à temps plein. Date limite de dépôt des candidatures : 23 février 2024
