Video Game Technology for Businesses

ESTIA is going to open an area equipped with cutting-edge technological tools to enable companies to develop innovative projects. This three-year European program is led by ESTIA Tech and its manager Olivier Larre.

"The objective is to promote technology from the world of video games and gaming such as augmented reality, virtual reality or digital twinning to create a demonstration area here in Izarbel as well as at five other sites in France, Spain and Portugal," explained Olivier Larre, manager of ESTIA Tech, the department of the Bidart engineering school dedicated to relations with companies looking for technological solutions, skills and training for their innovative projects.

The "Game Labs Net" project started last September within the framework of a project financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for SUDOE, the area including Spain, Portugal and southern France. Demonstration areas with computers, virtual reality headsets and movement areas for virtual environments will be created at six sites, including ESTIA in Bidart.

Each of the sites will be dedicated to a specific sector of activity. Izarbel will focus on aeronautics and space, Pau: tourism; Albi: health; Madrid: logistics; Bilbao: industry; and Leiria, Portugal: the plastics industry. Each site will be in direct contact with the others and companies that wish to experiment with technologies or participate in demonstrations will be able to do so remotely. "We are currently in the phase of identifying technologies and use cases. The areas will be equipped in 2021 and the plan is to set ours up in the new ESTIA 3 building," Olivier Larre explained.
