Engineering for sport

As part of the ESTIA student-engineers’ competitive examination, Bastien Adrillon developed a patented body-building device. This exercise bench was presented at trade fairs in spring and is likely to be marketed for export. 

“This idea sprang from my years of intensive physical training, my observations in the gym and my discussions with different fitness trainers, doctors and physiotherapists” said Bastien Adrillon, a former professional rugby player with US Dax. In September 2016, after joiningthe ESTIA Entreprendre incubator in the Izarbel Technology Park in March 2016, he created the company WIITraining to design and market his idea.

His project was to launch a new exercise bench for exercises with dumbbells in order to meet a clearly identified need: the elimination of the starting phase with dumbbells placed on the ground.  “I collaborated with three final year student engineers from ESTIA to design this bodybuilding device. We had prior rights’ searches carried out at national and international level to ensure that no other model was already in existence and we patented our concept” Bastien Adrillon told us.

This exercise bench was presented at two trade fairs in France and Germany, and has attracted interest from French customers as well as foreign distributors. It is likely to be exported as soon as it goes into production. The idea is to market it to gyms and sports clubs, rehabilitation centres, individuals and hotels with their own gyms.

Bastien Adrillon is planning to recruit one of ESTIA's three student engineers (today qualified) who took part in the project in order to develop other devices to add to his range.
