A bioclimatic building for Wikicampers
The company Wikicampers has laid the first stone of its new offices on a site acquired from the Communauté Pays Basque, at Izarbel in Bidart, where its adventure first began.
Almost ten years ago, Wikicampers established itself on the Izarbel technology park in Bidart. “The facilitator of nomadic travel”, as Marion Woirhaye liked to describe her company, is continuing to develop further. This company specialising in online motorhome rental already has a staff of 40, and now needs room to grow to expand the team and continue innovating. The 270 m² of the current premises are no longer enough. The co-founder and director was therefore looking for a location that could be adapted according to the “company’s need for agility”, a “modular and evolving” space, to suit its unique way of working. It should also be a place to meet. The ideal building did not exist. No matter. It was not the first challenge Marion Woirhaye had ever dealt with. “We’ll just to have to build it.”
To carry out her project, the company acquired a site of almost 2000m² from the Communauté Pays Basque, not far from its current site, and still at Izarbel in Bidart. “Where the whole adventure began nine years ago.” Along with her team, she put great thought into “designing a working environment that looked like them.” She then entrusted it to the architecture and landscape studio, Collectif Encore, great enthusiasts for ‘agile’ buildings that can adapt to changing needs.
The building will include the ‘forest/mountain’ view at the workstations, leading Marion to draw a parallel with nomadic travel: “A motorhome or a roof over your head is not an end in itself, it’s the way you live in it that makes the difference.” Façades open onto a flowing passageway 1.70m deep, with large areas of glass to the east, south and west, and a wood façade, everything is designed with respect for nature.
“The future building will be bioclimatic to be as respectful as possible of its environment.” It will generate energy savings, by using the natural air flows. “The building will be cooler in summer and kept warm in winter.” Photovoltaic panels and a green roof to the terrace add the finishing touches to the fittings. By summer 2024, the team will be moving into their new space, where they hope to welcome some 80 new colleagues by 2030.
Voilà près de dix ans que la société Wikicampers s’est ancrée au cœur du site technopolitain Izarbel de Bidart. « Le facilitateur du voyage nomade », tel que Marion Woirhaye aime à décrire sa société, poursuit son développement. Déjà forte de 40 collaborateurs, l’entreprise spécialisée dans la location de camping-car en ligne a besoin d’espace pour agrandir l’équipe et poursuivre son innovation. Les 270 m² de locaux actuels ne suffisent plus. La co-fondatrice et responsable se met donc en quête d’un lieu capable de s’adapter au « besoin d’agilité de l’entreprise ». Un espace « modulable et évolutif », qui correspond à sa manière singulière de travailler. Un lieu de rencontre aussi. Le bâtiment idéal n’existe pas. Qu’à cela ne tienne. Marion Woirhaye n’en est pas à son premier défi.
Pour mener à bien son projet, l’entreprise acquiert un terrain de près de 2 000m² auprès de la Communauté Pays Basque, non loin de son site actuel, toujours sur Izarbel à Bidart. « Là où a commencé l’aventure il y a neuf ans. » Avec son équipe, elle engage la réflexion pour « penser un environnement de travail qui leur ressemble ». Elle en confie la réalisation au cabinet d’architecture et paysage Collectif Encore, adepte des « bâtiments « agiles », qui s’adaptent à des besoins changeants.
Le bâtiment intègrera le panorama « forêt-montagne » aux postes de travail, invitant Marion Woirhaye à établir un parallèle avec le voyage nomade : « Un camping-car ou un toit n’est pas une fin en soi, c’est la manière de l’habiter qui fait la différence ». Façades ouvertes sur une coursive filante d’1,70m de profondeur, larges surfaces vitrées à l’est, au sud et à l’ouest, façade en bois, tout est conçu dans le respect de la nature.
« Le futur bâtiment sera bioclimatique pour être le plus respectueux possible de son environnement. » Il génèrera des économies d’énergie, en jouant sur les flux d’air naturels. « Pour un bâtiment plus frais l’été, et maintenu au chaud l’hiver. » Panneaux photovoltaïques, toit terrasse végétalisé, complèteront le panel des équipements. À l’horizon de l’été 2024, l’équipe intègrera son futur lieu de vie. Avec l’ambition d’accueillir en ces lieux, d’ici 2030, près de 80 collaborateurs.
