The mechanical engineering company developing energy conversion machines and special test benches is officially up and running in its new 1600-square meter facility. Fifty employees are busy at work in the building equipped with a thermal and electric installation allowing recovery, storage and reuse of the waste heat generated by the company’s industrial activity.

With the first stone laid in April 2018 and the Akira Technologies team moving in the following winter, the new facility was inaugurated this past January 14th. The 1600-square meter building located at Technocité, Bayonne’s technological park, gives the company, previously located in the Saint-Fréderic area in Bayonne, the space needed for increasing its production capacity, optimizing its organization and improving employee working conditions. The arrival of Akira Technologies at Technocité boosts this hub, more than ever dedicated to the aerospace, aeronautics and advanced materials industries.

Akira Technologies works in both the aeronautics industry – manufacturing test benches and conducting research and technology (R&T) electromechanical studies – and the motorcycle industry – studying and developing competition engines or technological engine demonstrators. The company, directed by Sylvain Loumé, is also involved in the defense industry. In September 2018, Akira Technologies took over Price Induction (PI), an aeronautics engine manufacturer in Anglet, in order to safeguard PI’s rare know-how and give themselves more expertise related to turbines.

At the inauguration, Steve Guttridge, manager of Kawasaki Europe Racing, for who Akira develops racing engines, attested to their successful partnership as did Pascal Dauriac, R&T director at Safran Helicopter Engines.  Company news is about the field of turbomachinery resulting from the acquisition of the Price Induction know-how. The start-up this winter of a micro-turbine electric generator has opened up direct applications in the defense and shipbuilding sectors, the latter being a new sector for Akira Technologies. The new Technocité plant was crucial in order for this project to take shape.
