Industrial metrology at Technocité
Mainly based in Mauléon, Elkar is a firm specialising in mechanical engineering and manufacturing. On the Technocité site, it develops its speciality of industrial metrology with a dedicated office and service.
Elkar was founded in 2005 by Beñat Elkegaray and Jean-Jacques Carriquiborde and opened its new 800m2 manufacturing workshop in Mauléon at the beginning of 2017. It offers services for the design, manufacture and inspection of tools and special machines, and employs around thirty engineers and technicians.
Four years ago, Elkar established a base on the Technocité Technology Park in an office located within the Compositadour technology platform. Four people work there full-time, focusing on the business of industrial metrology (measurement of parts) mainly serving manufacturers and subcontractors in the aeronautics and space sector.
“Our measurement business is carried out on customers’ sites and the team mainly moves around the geographical areas of Pau, Tarbes and Bayonne. To carry out these measurements on customers sites’, our measurement devices - two laser trackers and a measuring arm - are transportable. We also carry out measurements in our Mauléon premises with the help of an extra accurate three-dimensional measuring machine,” explained Jean Bernard Aycaguer, manager of the Inspection department.
If Elkar has chosen to base a team on the Technocité site, it is to get closer to its customers but also because of “Compositadour’s strategic position and to benefit from the Technocité ecosystem” added Jean-Jacques Carriquiriborde. There is no doubt that the growth of this Basque SME will be due to the development of “precision dimensional measurement, more often referred to as industrial metrology in which our business is investing more and more” stated Jean-Jacques Carriquiriborde.
