The Outercraft agency’s role in the Gazelle Tech project
Outercraft, a new design agency specialising in innovation, recently moved to the Technocité site, where it makes the master models for the moulds used to produce the prototype of a car made from ultra-light composite materials.
Last June, the Bordeaux start-up Gazelle Tech unveiled the first example of its ultra-light car. Weighing just 650 kg, the car takes just three litres of petrol to travel 100 km, according to its manufacturer. This economical fuel consumption is largely due to its chassis made from Aerocell – a composite material developed and patented by Gazelle Tech.
Says Outercraft founder Florian Auger: “We created the master models used to make the moulds for creating the first Gazelle Tech prototype. We borrowed Compositadour’s robot unit to fabricate the master models because a large number of parts had to be produced, some of which were too voluminous for our equipment to cope with.” Before setting up Outercraft, Florian studied materials and graphic art, after which he worked in surfboard manufacturing, followed by a stint as a research engineer for the Compositadour platform.
Up and running at the Technocité Technology Park since last March, the Outercraft agency offers strategy development, design, engineering and prototyping services aimed at simplifying and accelerating the design process. Currently employing three people, the agency plans to hire two more this year. “We develop complete innovation projects, from concept development to industrial production, with our main clients operating in the sport and electrical mobility sectors,” adds Florian Auger.
