An ESTIA student in the running for an international modelling award
Paul-Jabin Etcheveste is one of the few French people taking part in ‘Project of the Year 2020’, an international modelling competition organised by Dassault Systèmes. This ESTIA student is presenting a 3D model of a spaceship in the Star Wars films.
“It was on Star Wars day, held on 4 May by the international community of fans of that film series that Dassault Systèmes suggested sending 3D models of spaceships. That was a great coincidence because I had just made one as part of my second-year work at ESTIA on the CATIA software of Dassault Systèmes,” recalls Paul-Jabin Etcheveste, 19 years old and a student at École d’ingénieurs de l’Estia.
Dassault Systèmes then suggested taking part in ‘Project of the Year 2020’, an international competition organised by the Dassault group and based around its 3D modelling software, CATIA, SIMULIA and SOLIDWORKS. The winners of this competition will be chosen via a vote on Facebook and by a jury. “The results will be announced during July. I am hoping for a jury prize but I’m staying realistic when I compare myself with the other projects,” states Paul-Jabin Etcheveste.
His work on the CATIA software has given him real expertise in this computer-assisted design tool created by the Dassault Aviation Company. As an end of year placement, the ESTIA teaching team suggested he give tutorials on CATIA software to trainee engineers in their first year of the ESTIA engineering course. Paul-Jabin Etcheveste will go into the third year next September “having learned a lot from this experience,” he concludes.
