Jean-Baptiste Daramy is a project engineer for Compositadour, the technology platform of Technocité in Bayonne, and a keen skipper. The thirty-seven-year-old will set off in November on the next Route du Rhum, the transatlantic single-handed yacht race from Saint-Malo to Pointe-à-Pitre.

37-year-old Jean-Baptiste Daramy divides his time between the Compositadour platform at the Technocité park, where he works as a project engineer in composite materials, and his passion for sailing.  A member of the Yacht Club Basque in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, J.B. Daramy has participated in numerous yacht races, coming in seventh during the Mini Transat Îles de Guadeloupe 2015, his last race in this category of 6.5m yachts.

After competing in this category with impressive results (with several podium rankings), Jean-Baptiste Daramy has decided to pursue his career in other open-sea race categories, in particular Class40: 40-foot (12.18m) monohulled yachts for single-handed, two-handed and team races.

Jean-Baptiste Daramy will participate in the next Route du Rhum with a Class40 named ‘Chocolats Paries - Coriolis Composite’. Created in 1970, this single-handed transatlantic race takes place every four years and will leave from Saint-Malo on 4 November, to finish in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe. Around one hundred yachts in six different categories will take part, including some fifty Class40s.

Jean-Baptiste Daramy is supported by partners located in the Basque Country Technology Park: Coriolis Composites from the Compositadour platform (also a partner) in Technocité and the Seldon group, created and located at the Izarbel technology park. In Class40, the yachts must complete the race in 15 days, while boats in faster categories finish in just over one week.
