ESTIA team reaches the final of Act in Space
The 2018 Act in Space technological challenge took place at the Technocité Technology Park and 64 other sites simultaneously, involving 2,200 participants. A team from ESTIA will take part in the national final in Toulouse on 26 June.
At the end of May, at Technocité, four teams of students from ESTIA, together with two entrepreneurs from the company Freshbarrel, based at the Estia Entreprendre incubator, took up the challenge set by the Act in Space competition. Their task was to come up with new products or solutions by applying technologies and patents from the space sector to other areas of everyday life.
The student groups were supported in their work by technical coaches and experts from the space sector. These included two members of the Basque Country Urban Community management team for economic development, who contributed to the creation of projects linked to the ocean economy.
Organised by the CNES (Centre national d’études spatiales – French national centre for space studies), the European Space Agency (ESA) and the France South ESA Business Incubation Centre (ESA BIC), Act in Space challenges teams comprising entrepreneurs, students and experts to tackle a variety of subjects over the course of 24 hours. The 2018 event attracted 2,200 participants working at 65 sites in 32 countries across five continents.
At Technocité, the panel – on which the Basque Country Urban Community was represented – chose the “ESTI’astéroïde” team as the local winner. Intelligent fabric was the subject of the project developed by the four first-year ESTIA students. The “ESTI’astéroïde” team will now participate in the national Act in Space final, which takes place in Toulouse on 26 June during the Toulouse Space Show.
